Up to $197,649 in tuition to send elementary students to Bishop, plus a $250,000 bus

What happened

The October 13, 2026 packet asks the board to approve a parent request to send elementary students to Bishop Unified schools in California, with tuition estimated at $130,000 to $197,649. The same meeting proposed buying a new school bus for up to $250,000.25.

Why it matters to families

These are large costs for a district with about 65 students. Monthly payroll runs roughly $190,000 to $215,000, so the tuition alone is close to a month of payroll.

The evidence

The October 13, 2026 board packet states the tuition estimate for the out-of-state variance and the bus purchase cap. Both are proposals; minutes are not yet posted.
