Audit found missed deductions for employees arriving late or leaving early

Financial

What happened

A district audit found that 19 of 40 employee samples included late arrivals or early departures without a leave deduction or pay reduction. The district planned a lateness protocol and standardized attendance tracking and reporting by January 31, 2027; the September 22 agenda listed the corrective plan for board consideration.

Why it matters to families

The finding points to a gap in payroll and leave controls that could allow employees to be paid for time not worked. The proposed corrective steps would affect how attendance exceptions are documented and processed across the district.

The evidence

The employee attendance audit reported exceptions in 19 of 40 tested samples, with no corresponding sick, personal, or vacation leave deduction and no pay reduction. The corrective action response says the district will create a lateness protocol, standardize daily attendance reporting (including docking), and implement the changes by January 31, 2027.
