District news
Audit finds nearly $660,000 in capital-project deficits

What happened
The district’s corrective-action letter reports six capital projects with a combined $659,879 in unresolved deficits, including a $520,756 shortfall on a districtwide gym and school project. The district says it will review projects and seek to include funding for remaining deficits in the next annual budget, with that funding planned by May 2027.
Why it matters to families
Covering project overruns through a future budget could put pressure on other district spending, and the largest shortfall is substantial. The audit response sets a timeline for reviewing projects and addressing the deficits, but does not say that the proposed budget funding has already been approved.
The evidence
The October 8, 2026 corrective-action response lists six capital-project deficits: $8,000 for Mansion Roof Emergency; $29,664 for Smart School Architectural—Woodlands HS; $13,399 for the Districtwide Building Condition Survey; $75,560 for Playground General Construction—RJB; $520,756 for the 2022–23 Districtwide project (Gym, WMHS, RJB and FH); and $12,500 for the WMHS Turf Field. It says the Business Office will review project status by December 31, 2026 and incorporate funding for deficits into the upcoming annual budget by May 2027.
