Board says no to housing tax-increment financing request
What happened
On Sept 24, 2026 the board voted 5-0 to refuse to use district property tax money for a senior housing project at Sugarbowl Point. The developer, The Szanton Company, had asked for tax increment financing (TIF), which would send the tax growth from the new buildings to the project instead of to schools.
Why it matters to families
TIF can divert future school property tax money away from classrooms. The board said the project is for residents 62 and older and would not add students or school funding.
The evidence
Resolution 2026-5 declines to pledge or divert district tax revenue and says the district will not give a letter of local support to state housing agencies. The Sept 24 minutes record a 5-0 roll-call vote.
