What happened

The August 13 committee minutes report that five schools were on fire watch as of July 22: Hilo Intermediate, Pāhoa High & Intermediate, Lanakila Elementary, Aiea High and Waikele Elementary. This is a dated status, not confirmation that the schools remain on fire watch.

Why it matters to families

Families at the named schools had a documented fire-alarm concern. Repairs, permitting and testing were in progress; the reviewed later agendas do not establish when each concern was resolved.

The evidence

The minutes identify three systems as critical: Hilo Intermediate, Pāhoa High & Intermediate and Waikele Elementary. They separately classify 120 systems as poor; that does not mean 120 systems had failed.
