Enrollment falls again: 3,767 projected, down from 3,832

Financial

What happened

The district projects 3,767 students for 2026-27, down from a reconciled 3,832 in 2025-26 (which itself came in 22 below projection). Enrollment drives Alaska's per-student funding formula, so the decline cuts state revenue about $2.1 million below the prior-year revised level.

Why it matters to families

Fewer students means less state money every year the trend continues — it is the main force behind the district's recurring budget gap and will shape future staffing and program decisions.

The evidence

February 10, 2026 minutes record reconciled ADM of 3,832 against a 3,854 projection; the January 24 budget retreat presentation projects 3,767 for FY27 and shows the resulting foundation-revenue decline.
