How Kiowa County schools are paid for and who decides
USD 422 runs the public schools in Greensburg and Kiowa County. Like other Kansas districts, it gets most of its money through the state school finance formula and can add a local option budget (LOB) raised from local property taxes. For 2026-27 the board set the LOB at 32.4% and voted to exceed the revenue-neutral tax rate. A seven-member elected Board of Education meets twice a month and hires the superintendent, Brandie Waldschmidt.
Local option budget at 32.4%
Adopted Sept. 14, 2026 by Resolution 2705, alongside the 2026-27 budget.
Above revenue-neutral rate
The board voted 4-0 at a Sept. 14 hearing to let the budget exceed the revenue-neutral tax rate; no members of the public spoke.
Seven elected members
Ki Gamble is president and Tyler Heinson vice president (re-elected Jan. 12, 2026).
Meets twice a month
Usually the second and fourth Mondays at 8 p.m. at the district office, 710 S. Main, Greensburg.
The minutes do not show the dollar size of the budget or how much the tax rate will change, so this page cannot say how much taxes will go up.
