Who makes decisions at LIFE Academy?

An OUSD school with a School Site Council

LIFE Academy is governed by Oakland Unified's elected Board of Education. At the school level, the School Site Council reviews and recommends the annual School Plan for Student Achievement, including its proposed spending. The current plan says the council recommended it on April 21, 2026, before the board approved it on June 24.

The School Site Council shapes the annual plan

The council's recommendation covers the school plan that links goals, services, and spending. The published plan records family, staff, student, and council engagement from December through April.

The plan puts money behind attendance and learning

It budgets for reading support, translation for family conferences, a case manager, arts, after-school programming, and health-and-bioscience pathway activities.

Online records are limited

California requires School Site Council meetings to be open, but it does not require minutes to be published online. OUSD's annual plan is public; meeting-by-meeting minutes were not found in the current public source.

A published plan shows what the council recommended, but it does not show every discussion or vote that happened at its meetings.
