What happened

On June 11, 2026, the board waived the usual second reading and adopted a policy implementing Maine's bell-to-bell personal electronic device rule, which had to be in place by August 1. The policy limits student phone and device use for the whole school day.

Why it matters to families

Students and families should expect phones and personal devices to be put away from the first bell to the last bell, starting in 2026-27.

The evidence

June 11, 2026 minutes, item K 'Maine's Bell-to-Bell Personal Electronic Device Policy': 'Need policy by 8/1 - We need a motion to accept by unanimous consent/first a motion to waive first reading.' The motions passed.
