What happened

The Maine Charter School Commission's review team recommended renewing the school's charter for five years (July 1, 2027 to June 30, 2032) with no conditions. The full Commission was set to vote on October 13, 2026. A public hearing was held September 23.

Why it matters to families

MeANS is a public charter school. It can only keep operating if the state renews its charter. A five-year term means the state will review the school again in 2031-32.

The evidence

The draft recommendation dated September 15, 2026 calls for renewal 'without conditions.' It explains that a five-year term was chosen over a longer one because of chronic absenteeism, uneven state test results and financial-risk ratings. The Commission's final vote result had not been posted in the documents collected.
