Mold found on Mount View High School's third floor

Facilities

What happened

At the September 1, 2026 meeting, staff members told the board that mold had spread on the third floor of Mount View High School; one speaker said a teacher went to the emergency room with bronchitis. On September 15 the board approved, retroactive to September 4, emergency cleaning, air monitoring and filtration by Kelly Enterprises (ServPro Beckley). The superintendent said later air sampling by Pinnacle found no further cleaning was needed.

Why it matters to families

Students and staff use the building daily. Families can ask the district for the air test results.

The evidence

In the September 1 recording, a speaker says "the third floor is eaten up with mold." The September 15 recording includes the approval for "Kelly Enterprises Incorporated Service Pro Beckley retroactive to September 4, 2026 for emergency cleaning, air monitoring, and filtration" and the statement that "Pinnacle does not recommend any additional mold related cleaning and disinfection."
