Who runs Meridian Elementary School District?
Meridian Elementary School District runs one school, Meridian Elementary, at 15898 Central Street in the farm town of Meridian in Sutter County, California. Voters elect the three-member Board of Trustees. The superintendent is also the school's principal. The board usually meets on the second Thursday of the month at 5:30 p.m. in Room 4, and it posts agendas and minutes on the school website. The district also authorizes a charter, California Virtual Academy at Sutter, which it renewed in 2025 for 2026-2031.
Superintendent on leave
An October 22, 2026 special meeting agenda lists the superintendent/principal put on paid administrative leave pending an investigation.
Open-meeting complaints
After letters alleging Brown Act violations, the board re-held its June 2026 budget and LCAP votes in August 2026.
Falling test scores
Math proficiency fell from 30.19% to 18.03% and English from 35.30% to 26.23% between 2024 and 2025.
Tight budget
The 2026-27 budget projects about $126,000 more spending than revenue. The district ended 2025-26 with $412,797 unassigned.
Many parent and staff concerns were raised in public comment. The board handles personnel and student matters in closed session, as California law allows, so the record shows few outcomes.
