Board re-held budget and LCAP votes after Brown Act complaints

Day-to-day

What happened

The board received letters alleging it broke the Brown Act, California's open-meeting law, at its June 2026 meetings, where it adopted the 2026-27 budget and LCAP. The district said it did not agree that every action had to be redone. It re-held both public hearings on August 17, 2026 and re-approved the budget and LCAP 3-0 on August 18. A resident's written comment said the August notices gave conflicting rooms and did not say when the budget could be inspected.

Why it matters to families

The budget and LCAP decide how the district spends its money. Open-meeting rules give the public a fair chance to see and comment on them first.

The evidence

The August 17 and 18, 2026 agendas and minutes describe the letters and the re-adoption. The August 17 written comment, attached to the minutes, lists the notice problems. The board held Brown Act training on September 21, 2026.
