Who runs Mineral County School District
Mineral County School District serves about 500 students in Hawthorne and Schurz, Nevada. Its elected Board of Trustees meets on the first and third Tuesdays, with every third meeting held in Schurz. The current board lists four members: President Tyler Viani, Vice President Juanita Diede, Clerk Kristin Reeves and Tahlyah Norcom. Stephanie Keuhey is superintendent under a contract approved in July 2026.
Shrinking budget
The 2026-27 budget plans for 480 students and 80 employees, and the board authorized possible layoffs in April 2026.
Clean audit
The FY2025 audit found no weaknesses or findings.
Schurz access
Schurz Elementary has a multi-year bus driver shortage now before the board.
The district posts agendas, support packets and minutes for nearly every meeting, but most files are scanned images that are hard to search.
