What happened

The Board adopted districtwide rules prohibiting students in pre-K through grade 8 from using generative AI in assignments or other work products. For grades 9–12, AI use is limited to teacher-authorized assignments and must follow citation or documentation requirements.

Why it matters to families

Families and students now have grade-specific boundaries for classroom AI use, and unauthorized use may be handled under the established student code of conduct.

The evidence

The October 14 agenda records approval on the second reading of Policy 2365, Acceptable Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI). The attached policy text prohibits student use in assignments or work products in pre-K–8, limits use in grades 9–12 to teacher-authorized assignments, and requires citation/documentation methods in the district AI Plan.
