What happened

In March 2026 Moriarty High School proposed an A/B block schedule with eight classes. Students would attend four 85-minute classes a day, alternating days, and all eight classes for 38 minutes on Wednesdays. Staff surveys showed 95% support. By April board members congratulated the school on going forward with it, and in the fall the district described the block schedule as in use.

Why it matters to families

Students get longer classes, which the school hopes will help math scores. Math proficiency has been in the single digits. Some board members worried about attention spans and gaps between class days.

The evidence

March 17, 2026 recording: "they'll go to the class every other day ... for 85 and then ... 38 minutes"; staff support "95.2% in favor." April 21 recording: congratulations "for being able to go forward with the block schedule." The vote itself is not in the collected recordings.
