Board adopts bell-to-bell cell phone ban

Day-to-day

What happened

On June 15 the board adopted a new cell phone and personal electronic devices policy. It follows Maine's new law banning student phones for the whole school day, and it also covers smart glasses. Phone lockers are on order.

Why it matters to families

Starting in 2026-27, students cannot use their phones at any point during the school day, including lunch and passing time.

The evidence

The policy passed its second reading on June 15, 2026, with smart glasses added. The superintendent said lockers were ordered and that families would get information and an open house over the summer. Evidence comes from auto-generated captions of the Western Hills Access Television recording, not approved minutes.
