Board sets goal to limit student screen time by grade

Day-to-day

What happened

On September 21 the board adopted a goal for 2026-27. By June 30, 2027, the education committee and staff will draft a K-12 procedure that sets age-appropriate screen-time and device limits. A first draft is expected at the December board meeting.

Why it matters to families

It could change how much time students spend on school iPads and laptops in every grade. Parents raised concerns at a screen-time night in September.

The evidence

The goal text was read aloud and the board approved its two goals. On October 19 the board heard that the draft procedure was going to department heads and is expected in December. Evidence comes from auto-generated captions of the Western Hills Access Television recording, not approved minutes.
