What happened

On March 11, 2026, the board adopted Policy JICJ, Cell Phones and Other Personal Electronic Devices in School, based on Maine School Management Association model language. In February the board amended the draft so that all electronic devices, not only phones, may not be used on field trips during the school day. In April the board rescinded the old phone policy, JFCK.

Why it matters to families

This sets the rules families and students follow on devices during school.

The evidence

Feb. 11, 2026 minutes: amendment to 'include language in JICJ that cell phones could not be used on Field Trips' and 'to include all electronic devices', all in favor. March 11 minutes: JICJ approved for second read. April 8 minutes: 'A motion was made to rescind policy JFCK', all in favor.
