What happened

In June 2026, parents complained that a board member volunteering at a school event had posted a student's photo on Facebook without permission. The board then sent revisions to its school volunteer regulations (IJOC-R1) back to committee. On Oct. 14 a revised draft went to first read. Under it, volunteers may photograph only their own child. A 'no touching' clause is still under discussion.

Why it matters to families

The rules protect students' images and set the same expectations for volunteers who are board members.

The evidence

June 10, 2026 minutes: public comment about 'her daughter's photo being posted on Facebook by a School Board member who was volunteering'. July 8 minutes: 'many questions related to our obligation to protect against the improper use of students' images'. Oct. 14 board recording: IJOC-R1 moved to first read.
