District news
District opens a high school virtual academy
What happened
NAFCS is opening its own online school for grades 9-12 in 2026-27, using the Imagine Edgenuity platform with one teacher. About 200 Floyd County students already attend virtual schools elsewhere. By June, 34 families had signed up; the budget assumes 32 students and a small net gain. Students who are not succeeding return to regular school at the end of a semester.
Why it matters to families
Families get a district-run online option, and the district keeps state funding for students who would otherwise leave.
The evidence
The April 13, 2026 minutes record approval in concept; the June 8 minutes record the 7-0 vote to launch and the enrollment and budget figures.
