What happened

For 2026-27, North Clay High School students must keep phones, smart watches, earbuds and other devices powered off and stored in their assigned locker during all class periods, except in listed cases. A device found outside a locker during class may be taken. The board approved the high school cell phone policy on July 15, 2026.

Why it matters to families

This changes the school day for every high school student. A parent asked the board in February 2026 to tighten phone rules, saying phones distract students who already have school Chromebooks.

The evidence

The 2026-27 North Clay High School Student Handbook, section 'Cell Phones & Electronic Devices,' requires devices to be 'kept powered-off and stored securely inside the student's assigned locker during all class periods.' July 15, 2026 minutes record the board's approval of the high school cell phone policy.
