$100,000 grant builds out the high school's machinist program with Electric Boat
What happened
The superintendent reported on November 18, 2025 that North Kingstown High School received a $100,000 grant from the Champlin Foundation for its new Machinist and Defense career program, built with Electric Boat and the Community College of Rhode Island. Earlier reports describe milling machines and lathes being installed, students completing OSHA 10 and NIMS certifications, and a teacher hired for the program. The facility had its ribbon cutting on May 26, 2026, and in February 2026 the state approved two more North Kingstown career pathways, culinary and video/photography communication, as CTE programs.
Why it matters to families
This is a route from high school straight into paid skilled work at a local employer, and the grant pays for the equipment students train on.
