Survey: most high school students say few follow phone pouch rules
What happened
At the June 22, 2026 meeting administrators shared surveys of 116 teachers and 372 students about the Yondr phone pouches at the high school. Teachers mostly said students are more focused. In the students' answers, 252 of 372 said very few students follow the pouch rules, and students mostly said the pouches should end.
Why it matters to families
State law and district policy 5500 ban phone use all day. The survey shows the pouch part of that rule is hard to enforce, so the board may change how phones are stored or checked.
The evidence
The agenda lists a Yondr Pouch presentation and a discussion item on Yondr pouch. In the recording (auto-generated captions, so numbers may be slightly off) the presenter reported the counts above, said many teachers saw students trying to get around the pouches, and that about 70 teachers wanted to keep them, 30 wanted changes and 46 wanted to stop. No board decision on the pouches was recorded.
