Board discusses cutting polling places from five to three

Day-to-day

What happened

On September 30, 2026 the board discussed moving school-vote polling places from five sites (Eagle, Medford, South Ocean, Saxton and Tremont) to three middle schools: Saxton, Oregon and South Ocean. Staff said it could save about $4,000 per election and cut election workers from about 33 to 12. No vote was taken.

Why it matters to families

Voters who are used to an elementary school poll would have to go to a middle school for the budget vote and board election. Board members said they would mail notices and post signs if it goes ahead.

The evidence

The minutes list Consolidation of Polling Places as a discussion item (five locations to three middle schools). In the recording (auto-generated captions) the district clerk gave average voter counts by site (Eagle 276, Medford 535, South Ocean 369, Saxton 394, Tremont 658), the savings and the worker numbers, and board members said they supported it.
