Emergency certificates used to fill middle school math and science jobs

Admin hiring

What happened

On July 28, 2026, the board approved emergency teaching certificates for two middle school teachers, one for science and one for math and science. It also approved using emergency certified substitutes, meaning substitutes with a college degree but no teaching certificate.

Why it matters to families

Emergency certificates let a district hire people who are not fully certified for that subject. This is happening at the middle school that is under a turnaround plan.

The evidence

The approved July 28, 2026 minutes record Orders #27-14 and #27-15. The minutes say one teacher is certified for elementary and needs emergency certification for middle school, and the other is a new science teacher. On August 18, 2026, the board approved more emergency certificates (Order #27-32).
