District news
Board adopts property tax rate that raises revenue 4%
What happened
On September 8, 2026, the board adopted a tax rate of 52.5 cents per $100 on real estate and 52.6 cents on personal property, up from 52.3 and 52.5 cents. This is the '4% rate', the highest rate the board can set without it being subject to a voter recall. The motor vehicle rate stays at 50.2 cents.
Why it matters to families
Local property taxes help pay for schools. The district says it chose this rate because state SEEK funding is expected to fall by $271,935 and costs are rising.
The evidence
The approved September 8, 2026 special meeting minutes record Order #27-35 adopting 52.5 cents on real property and 52.6 cents on personal property. The August 18 tax presentation says the compensating rate (50.2 and 50.3 cents) would bring in about $196,140 less if all taxes were collected, and that last year's collection rate was only 77.6%.
