What happened

On April 7, 2026 the board approved revisions to policy JICJ (5-0). Students in PreK through grade 8 may not use personal devices during the school day (7:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. for PreK-5 and 7:00 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. for grades 6-8); devices must be off and in a backpack or designated area. High school students may not use them during instructional time.

Why it matters to families

The rules change how phones are used every day, including at lunch and recess for younger students. Colorado now requires districts to have a phone policy.

The evidence

The policy draft attached to the April 7 agenda states the grade-level rules, and the minutes record the 5-0 vote to approve the revisions.
