What happened

On July 21, 2026 the board adopted policy JIHC (4-0, one member not present for the vote). It lets administrators use stationary and mobile metal detectors and hand-held wands when there is reasonable suspicion or a pattern of weapons or violence. It says all students are subject to uniform or random screening to enter or stay on school grounds, and refusing screening can lead to discipline.

Why it matters to families

This changes what students may face when entering school, so families should know the screening rules and the consequences for refusing.

The evidence

The adopted draft text states the screening and discipline rules, and the July 21 minutes record the 4-0 vote to adopt it.
