New cell phone policy up for final vote

Day-to-day

What happened

The board is adopting a new policy on student cell phones and electronic devices (Policy 276, JICJ). It had a first reading in July, a second reading on the August agenda, and its final reading on the September 17 agenda. At the high school, about half of 184 discipline reports in fall 2025 were for phone problems, and smart glasses and watches caused test-security worries.

Why it matters to families

The policy sets the rules for when students can have and use phones and smart devices during the school day.

The evidence

The September 17, 2026 agenda lists the final reading of policy 276 (cell phones and electronic devices); the November 20, 2025 minutes report the phone share of discipline reports.
