2026-27 budget plans about $5M deficit

Financial

What happened

The board adopted the 2026-27 budget. General fund spending is about $117.0M against about $111.5M in revenue, a deficit of about $5M paid from savings.

Why it matters to families

The district is again spending more than it takes in. Its savings were about $34.9M in mid-2026, so repeated deficits shrink that cushion.

The evidence

At the June 8, 2026 meeting, a trustee asked whether the budget has a $5 million deficit and staff said yes. The figures were shown at the June 2 workshop. Evidence comes from the district's auto-generated YouTube captions, which can garble names and numbers.
