District opens 900 District of Choice spaces

What happened

The board approved 300 elementary, 300 middle-school and 300 high-school spaces, with applications from November 1 through January 8.

Why it matters to families

Interdistrict recruitment is part of the enrollment picture, but approved spaces do not guarantee 900 new students or offset all enrollment losses.

The evidence

Staff reported that 358 previously approved District of Choice applicants had produced 279 actual arrivals, compared with 336 approvals and 266 arrivals in the prior comparison. Incoming approvals and actual enrollment are different measures; outgoing transfers also continued.
