District adds asbestos-abatement oversight to Grant Elementary portable demolition

High-risk

What happened

The district has expanded plans to demolish the portable near Grant Elementary’s main building to include independent oversight of asbestos abatement. The consultant will monitor removal work, conduct air sampling and a final visual inspection, and document the results.

Why it matters to families

The demolition involves asbestos-containing materials, so families should know that specialized monitoring and testing are planned as part of the removal work.

The evidence

The May 13, 2026 amendment says the original contract covered hazardous-material testing and demolition specifications, and adds asbestos-abatement monitoring and project management. The consultant’s scope includes air monitoring during removal, a final visual inspection, and closeout records with laboratory sample results. The amendment adds $3,952, bringing the contract total to $7,923.50.
