Independent audit of special education programs is under way

Day-to-day

What happened

The district is running a full special education audit led by the Schmitt Leadership Group and asked parents of students with disabilities to share views through an anonymous online survey (ThoughtExchange).

Why it matters to families

Families raised concerns about discipline and placement for students with disabilities. The audit's findings could change services, staffing and spending.

The evidence

The board approved the special education plan on November 5, 2025 so it could be included in the request for proposals for the audit; staff said the audit would include focus groups with families. No results were published in the collected records.
