District news
Phone ban: 1 in 3 students broke the rule in year one
What happened
The district reported 2,714 of 7,626 students (35.6%) had at least one phone violation in 2025-26, with 10,097 violations in all. Every violation led to a parent notification.
Why it matters to families
Phones must be off and in lockers all day, including bathrooms, hallways and cafeterias. Repeat violations are common, and families get a notice each time.
The evidence
The district's Annual Distraction-Free Schools Policy Enforcement Report, published Sept. 1, 2026, lists the counts and says Board Policy 6106 was adopted Aug. 26, 2025. It records no confiscations, detentions or other discipline, and found no statistically significant disparity.
