Shoshone School District No. 312
A small Lincoln County district relying on state funding and a renewable local levy, while it builds a new gym
How is Shoshone's school district paid for?
Shoshone Joint School District No. 312 runs one campus in Shoshone with an elementary and a secondary school. Most of its money comes from the state of Idaho, which funds districts through 'support units' based on enrollment. In 2026 the state froze that funding, and the district's units fell to 28.5 from about 34. Local property taxes add about $411,000, including a supplemental levy that voters must renew every two years. A five-member board elected by zone sets the budget and hires the superintendent, Dr. Rob Waite.
2026-27 general fund
About $5.84 million proposed, down from about $5.95 million.
Levy
$300,000 a year for two years was on the May 19, 2026 ballot.
Reserves
About $1.73 million at the end of 2025-26; about $272,000 planned to be spent in 2026-27.
Board
Five zones; three current members were appointed, including Andrea Logan in August 2026.
The 2025-26 budget ended only about $3,000 off plan, and the reserve stays above the board's 20% target even after the planned drawdown.
