State funding freeze shrinks budget; district to use reserves

Financial

What happened

In spring 2026 the superintendent said the state counts the district at 28.5 staff 'support units', down from about 34, under a statewide funding freeze, and an early look at 2026-27 showed about a $400,000 shortfall. The budget the board approved in June plans to use about $272,000 of savings, leaving about $1.46 million. The proposed general fund is about $5.84 million, down from about $5.95 million, with salaries down about $225,000.

Why it matters to families

Fewer state-funded positions and a smaller budget can mean fewer staff for the same students.
