District asks the town for 8% less operating money next year

Financial

What happened

For 2027-28 the district plans to ask the Municipality of Skagway for $1,976,220 for school operations, down from $2,148,021. It expects state Foundation aid to rise from $1,017,813 to $1,298,649. Total operating revenue would dip 1.2%.

Why it matters to families

The town pays more than half of the school's operating budget. The request shows the district is leaning more on state aid, which can change with each legislative session.

The evidence

The FY28 projected revenue request lists city appropriations falling 8.00% ($2,148,021 to $1,976,220) and the Foundation Program rising 27.59%. The September 22, 2026 board agenda lists the FY2028 Municipal Revenue Request, which the board approved unanimously.
