District news

Enrollment keeps falling

High-risk

What happened

Enrollment came in below the district's projection of about 1,550 students for 2026-27, at about 1,426 students this fall. That is down from 1,707 in 2017-18 and 368 fewer than in 2012. Many students who leave go to online schools or Vigo County schools.

Why it matters to families

Indiana pays schools per student, so fewer students means less money. Falling enrollment is a main reason the district is studying moving to one campus.

The evidence

August 2026 minutes: 'While the Corporation initially projected approximately 1,550 students, enrollment was below that projection,' and the decrease is expected to reduce projected funding.
