County office adopts its first AI policy for staff and students

Day-to-day

What happened

The Sutter County Board of Education adopted policy 0441 on July 8, 2026. It allows staff and students to use AI tools under nine principles, such as using AI to support teachers, not replace them, and using it ethically, safely and privately.

Why it matters to families

Students in county office programs and charters will have rules for AI tools like chatbots. Staff said the policy also puts everyone on the same AI platform with controls.

The evidence

The July 8, 2026 packet has the full policy text. The July 8 minutes, in the August 12 packet, record approval 3-0 with two trustees absent.
