Tunica County School District

Funding structure, how it compares to peers, and where major projects stand.

Who runs Tunica County's schools, and what is it planning?

A small Delta district with an elected five-member board that is planning a new high school

Tunica County School District serves about 1,600 students in Tunica County, Mississippi, at Tunica Elementary, Robinsonville Elementary, Tunica Middle and Rosa Fort High School. Five board members, one from each county district, set policy and approve the budget, and Superintendent Dr. Frederick Robinson runs the district day to day. The board meets once a month, usually on the second Monday at 5:00 PM in the Tunica Elementary School auditorium. Like other Mississippi districts, it is paid for mostly by the state school funding formula plus local property taxes, with federal programs such as Title I paying for much of its tutoring and teacher training.

Monthly public meetings

Agendas list financial reports, the claims docket, a personnel agenda and the superintendent's report every month.

Local money is tight

In August 2026 the board was asked to borrow up to $1,391,087 because local revenue fell short; the agenda notes the item was tabled.

New high school in planning

The district paid for a feasibility study and in October 2026 started looking for a financial advisor to fund construction.

Lots of outside help

Many agenda items hire outside coaching, therapy and software providers, often paid with federal funds.

The district posts agendas but not minutes, so this page often shows what the board planned to decide, not what it finally voted.
