Students to leave early at 1:30 PM on Mondays starting September

Day-to-day

What happened

The August 10, 2026 agenda asked the board to approve early release for students at all schools on Mondays starting in September 2026, at 1:30 PM, so teachers can have training. In February 2026 the board had been asked to stop Monday early release to make up days lost to a winter weather closure.

Why it matters to families

Families need to plan for pickup or care on Monday afternoons. Students get less class time on those days.

The evidence

Consent item 7Y on the August 10, 2026 agenda requests Monday early release at 1:30 PM at all schools for faculty and staff professional development, with teachers dismissed at 4:00 PM, beginning September 14, 2026. The February 9, 2026 agenda (item 8A) proposed ending Monday early release from February 16 to regain lost instructional time.
