Board emptied special-ed and tuition reserves to pay down the deficit

Financial

What happened

In March 2026 voters approved raising up to $150,000 to reduce the deficit (Article IV). On June 8, 2026 the board voted to withdraw about $120,000 from the Special Education reserve and $216,000 from the High School Tuition reserve, leaving $1 in each. The business administrator said this would cut the deficit from about $603,516 to about $108,379.

Why it matters to families

The reserves were meant for surprise special-education and high school tuition costs. With them nearly empty, an unexpected out-of-district placement or extra high school student would have to come from the operating budget.

June 8, 2026 draft minutes (in the July 8 packet); March 14, 2026 annual meeting minutes (Article IV).
