Phones must stay off and put away all school day

Day-to-day

What happened

The 2026-27 student handbook bans personal devices (phones, smartwatches, tablets) on school property during the school day, following state law. Devices must be off and kept in a non-see-through backpack, vehicle or locker. Students who use one face discipline, and the phone is taken for a parent to pick up. Exceptions apply for IEPs, 504 plans and medical needs.

Why it matters to families

This changes how students reach family and friends during the day, and parents may have to come to school to get a confiscated phone.

The evidence

The 2026-27 Student Handbook section 'Possession and Use of Personal Communication Devices' sets out the ban, storage rules and penalties.
