District news
Voters asked in February to authorise up to $50 million for school and city fields
What happened
The superintendent told the January 13, 2026 meeting that Warwick would hold a special election on February 3, 2026 with a bond question asking voters to authorise borrowing up to $50 million. The building committee and the builder estimated about $18 million of it is needed to finish the athletic facilities at the two new high schools, with the balance available for city recreation sites including DelGuidice Park, Norwood field, McDermott Pool and the Warburton ice rink. The result of the election is not recorded in the district's filed meeting record.
Why it matters to families
The extras added to the Toll Gate contract in November 2025, including bleachers and outdoor sports facilities, were approved only on condition that additional money arrives. This ballot question was the route to that money, so it decides what the two new high schools actually include when they open.
The evidence
The approved January 13, 2026 minutes record the February 3, 2026 special election, bond question one asking for authority to borrow up to $50 million, the roughly $18 million needed to complete the high schools, and the list of city recreation sites that could share the remainder. No later filed minutes state the outcome.
