How is Weld RE-4 paid for?

State school-finance formula, local property taxes and a voter-approved bond program

Weld RE-4 School District serves Windsor, Severance and nearby areas of Weld County, Colorado, with about 6,650 students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Operating money comes from the state school-finance formula and local property taxes; a voter-approved bond pays for building projects such as the Windsor Middle School modernization. A five-member elected Board of Education, with members chosen by geographic district, adopts the budget, sets policy and hires the superintendent, Superintendent Scallon.

Enrollment

6,657 students in K-12 (not counting preschool) on August 17, 2026, down from 6,691 four days earlier.

Cash flow

On July 21, 2026 the board joined the State Treasurer's interest-free loan program to cover months when tax receipts are low.

Bond projects

A bond oversight committee prioritized remaining projects on June 4, 2026; the district is waiting to see finances as current projects finish.

Audit

A preliminary audit report review was set for the November 2, 2026 work session.

The collected documents do not include the district budget or adopted dollar amounts; only board agendas, minutes and one recording from July to November 2026 are available online.
