District news

District moves away from free meals for every student

Day-to-day

What happened

In June 2026 the superintendent recommended dropping the federal Community Eligibility Provision, which gives free meals to all students, and going back to paid student meals. In July the board approved 2026-27 meal prices.

Why it matters to families

Families who are not eligible for free or reduced-price meals may now have to pay for breakfast and lunch. Families should check whether they qualify and fill out meal forms.

The evidence

June 15, 2026 minutes (item G) record the recommendation to discontinue CEP for a paid meal program and talk of electronic meal payments. July 13, 2026 minutes record the 7-0 vote approving 2026-27 meal prices.
