Board renews online school contract for five more years
What happened
On June 15, 2026 the board approved a new five-year contract with E-School Virtual Charter Academy, which runs the district's online school. The company's fee is 5% per student for up to 500 students and 6% above that. The 2026-27 budget plans for 600 online students, worth $3,360,000 in state aid.
Why it matters to families
Online students now bring in more state money than many in-person programs, so this contract shapes West Elk's budget for years. The virtual education fund grows from about $1.05 million spent in 2025-26 to $3.36 million budgeted.
