2026-27 Code of Conduct bars phones during the school day, as state law requires

Day-to-day

What happened

The Code of Conduct approved July 1, 2026 says students may not use an internet-enabled device such as a cell phone, unless the school supplies it, in school buildings during the school day. Staff can grant exemptions. Recording people without permission is banned in classrooms and restrooms.

Why it matters to families

This changes the daily routine for every student. Consequences can include blocking wifi or banning the device from school for a time, after parents are told.

The evidence

The Code of Conduct, marked approved by the Board of Education July 1, 2026, lists this rule under what students should not do. The June 8 Board report thanks student board members for helping set up the cell phone policy.
