District news
Phones go into locked pouches all day
What happened
Woodson ISD's 2026-27 handbook keeps last year's phone rule. Students in grades 4-12 lock phones and smartwatches in labeled pouches in hallway lockers by 7:40 a.m. Younger students hand them to their teacher. A student caught with a device pays a $15 fee to get it back and gets three days of detention.
Why it matters to families
Every student has to give up their phone or smartwatch for the whole school day, and parents need to call the office to reach their child.
The evidence
Student Handbook 2026-27, 'Possession and Use of Personal Telecommunications Devices': cites Texas House Bill 1481, describes the pouches and lockers, the 7:35-7:40 a.m. turn-in, the $15 fee and three days of lunch or after-school detention.
